Work continues to prepare the development site for the University’s new teaching and learning building. By the end of this week the shell of Building 58a will be completely removed.

Other works taking place this week:

  • On Monday 26 September the bin store located between Buildings 2 and 58 will be removed – you may notice some lorry movements on this day. For users of the bin store, please note this has been relocated next to the John Hansard Gallery.
  • Excavation between Buildings 58 and 2 will recommence, to the south of the link bridge. Please note that, in order to ensure the safe movements of construction vehicles in this area, the path between Buildings 58 and 54 has been closed to pedestrians. Signage has been put in place to direct pedestrians between Building 54 and Turner Sims.
  • The work on Salisbury Road will continue with traffic management signs and lights in place.

As we enter the new academic year, some of the more disruptive activities will be undertaken at weekends to reduce the impact on neighbouring buildings. If you are due to be on campus during these dates, please note that the following works will be noisy:

  • The breaking up of the foundations beneath Building 58a will take place on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October 2016.
  • The removal of the link bridge connection to Building 58a is scheduled to take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October 2016. On these dates, there will be no access via the link bridge between Buildings 58 and 2.
  • Works to remove underground piles will also take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October 2016.

The bus layby next to the site is being taken out of use on Saturday 8 October 2016 to create space for a pedestrian walkway from Salisbury Road to the bus interchange. There will be no change to the Uni-link bus exit route as a result of these works.
