The accreditation scheme is run by international consulting group Postal & Logistics Consulting Worldwide (PLCWW), having taken over the process from the Royal Mail.
The award required the Post Room to meet specific criteria in areas including security, knowledge of staff, efficiency of processes and, of course, customer service.
This criteria has been significantly toughened up over the past few years making the achievement particularly notable.
The accreditation process has been adopted by at least 5 other universities as well as many private businesses, the highest award being diamond.
The Post Room are continually looking for innovative ways to introduce improvements and have instigated a forum of managers from other universities to share experience and ideas. This group has just successfully held their first virtual conference, set up and hosted by the Southampton team.
