Arrival of new Commonwealth Masters and PhD Scholars

The University recently welcomed 11 new scholars from Commonwealth countries. In 2016-17, a total of 22 Commonwealth Scholars will be enrolled on Masters and PhD programmes across the University.

The students come from a wide variety of countries across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, including Antigua, Bangladesh, Dominica, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The highly competitive Commonwealth scholarships fund Masters and PhD programmes which have a particular relevance to developing countries. Current scholars are enrolled in subject areas such as Biological Sciences, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Education, Film, Geography, Health Sciences, Law, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine, Ocean and Earth Science, Psychology and Statistics.

In addition, up to 20 scholarships have been awarded to Commonwealth students to study Masters programmes in Gerontology and Global Ageing and Policy through distance learning.

The 2017 Commonwealth scheme for Masters and PhD scholarships is currently open for applications.
