Downloading films, TV programs and music from file sharing services is against the law

Using the University network to illegally download media will result in disciplinary action.

By connecting to the University network, either via Eduroam or a wired connection, you are agreeing to the University’s terms and conditions of internet browsing which includes information on infringing copyright.

The University permits limited social/recreational use. This does not include any activities which are illegal or which infringe the rights of others. This includes infringing copyright by making any copies of, or providing for copying, or storing in any medium by electronic means or otherwise any copyright works (such as pictures, text, music, films, TV or radio programmes) without the consent of the copyright owner. This includes downloading and sharing. A work that is available to be copied does not mean it is available legally and availability may be subject to licence terms.

If you do download anything illegally it will be traced back to you. The University receives notification of any illegal download requests originating from the University network. Your faculty will be made aware of your activity and disciplinary action will be taken. You may also be liable to criminal or civil action.
