Professor Vladimiro Sassone, Director of the University’s Cyber Security Academy, will use the prestigious title to build upon effective collaboration with Roke as a key industrial partner.
Professor Sassone, of Electronics and Computer Science, is one of two academics from the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering to be selected in the latest round of RAEng Research Chairs.
Professor Michalis Zervas, from the University’s Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), was also recently awarded the prestigious title to progress Advanced Fibre Laser Technologies for Future Manufacturing with the support of SPI Lasers.
Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering, said:
“It is gratifying for two members of our Faculty’s research community to be recognised through prestigious Research Chairs and this reflects the world-leading research activities that exist within our departments. The research undertaken by Vladimiro and Michalis is extremely important to create new knowledge that drives positive impact on both society and the economy.”
