The event, entitled: ‘Not the Golden Age of Old? – New research on older people living in the UK’ will take place from 10:00 – 13:00 on Tuesday 8 November at Church House, Westminster, London.

Professor Zaidi, together with Age UK’s Professor José Iparraguirre and Dr Susan Davidson, will stage a presentation about the wellbeing of older people, using data from the UK household longitudinal study ‘Understanding Society’.

Professor Zaidi commented:

“This research tells us that wellbeing of older people is influenced by a wide range of factors, so we should think quite broadly when deciding on policies and programmes on how to improve wellbeing in later life.

“It develops the new Age UK’s Index of Wellbeing in Later Life ‘WILL’ with methodological improvements over our earlier work in developing the Global AgeWatch Index for HelpAge and the Active Ageing Index for UNECE/EC. We anticipate that these pieces of work will continue to generate impact on the lives of older people in the UK and worldwide.”

Part of the Economic and Science Research Council (ESRC) Festival of Social Sciences, the event will also include a panel discussion with guests from the charitable sector, health organisations and the media.
