The University Library has now launched the User Experience (UX) Study. By analysing the study’s findings, library staff hope to discover how and why Library spaces and services are used.
The work includes studies of physical spaces and usability testing of the Library online offer. Other academic libraries have used ethnographic and anthropological techniques to gather in-depth data about users, and the same will be done here at Southampton.
The library aim to shape future developments to meet users’ needs more effectively, develop new services and design spaces in which users can enjoy their research, learning and overall study.
Participants are currently being recruited for the different elements of the study.
To express their appreciation for participants’ help, the library will provide successful web utility testers with £20 in vouchers, whilst those who complete diary studies will receive £50 in vouchers (type of vouchers to be confirmed at a later date).
The Library is working with Union Southampton in their drive to recruit students for the study.
Union VP Education, Elliot Grater says:
“I think this is a fantastic project and a great way to get student consultation and tailor developments to what students are asking for!”
More details about the different branches of the study, including how to apply, can be found here.
