The University hosted its first ever Student Forum chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Christopher Snowden on Thursday 10 November.
The forum was a great opportunity for students to offer significant feedback on their course, as well as the various services available across the University.
New for the 2016-17 academic year, the forum provided an opportunity for students to engage directly with senior university leaders on issues that are important to their experience as students.
Following the forum, change is already being made in response to the ideas put forward by students.
A number of subjects were discussed at the forum including; employability, Personal Academic Tutors and placement support.
Nicky Passmore, Executive Director of Student Experience, is now working with staff to see how the University can act on the ideas put forward.
All responses will be published on SUSSED by Thursday 8 December, one month after the forum took place.
Two of the ideas raised on the night have already been implemented by the University:
- You said: Students in the Business School have access to great videos that offer guidance when looking for a placement. Can these be made available so that all students can benefit from them?
- We did: All placement videos have now been shared with the wider student community and can now be accessed on the Careers and Employability website.
- You said: Lots of students join clubs and societies but the opportunity to develop employability skills through the societies seems to be overlooked. Could the university work with student societies to enhance their employability offering ?
- We did: Careers Practitioner Karl Anton reviewed this idea and has proposed a set of relevant resources to be developed and shared on the Student Groups How To webpage. Karl will take this idea to a joint working group meeting with Dan Varley, VP Engagement, so that they can consider how to take it forward together.
Students are welcome to share their feedback at the next Student Forum taking place in February 2017. An announcement will be made on SUSSED, so watch this space!
