Post-referendum information for European colleagues

Almost one thousand members of our staff and two thousand students are from European countries other than Britain, and form an integral part of the future success of our University.

The result of the EU referendum leaves us with some significant questions to answer, and a need to work even more closely together to navigate our way through successfully.

There are currently no specific answers to the future status of EU nationals living in the UK or indeed British nationals residing in other European countries. Even after article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty is invoked in March 2017, there may still be two years of uncertainty as negotiations are undertaken for the exit. Although, the Prime Minister has this month indicated that she wants an early agreement on the status of UK nationals in Europe and EU nationals here, so that individuals can plan with certainty.

Information

The University is acutely aware that some colleagues from the EU are anxious and would like as much information as possible to make informed decisions about their future. Here is a link to a slide-deck summary of information, setting out potential pathways and linking to the relevant UK government information, which we hope will be of use.

Your input

We would like to provide more support if possible. To do that, it would be really helpful to hear directly from colleagues who are affected, so that we can understand the key issues from your point of view. Please send your thoughts to: [email protected]

Each email will be read and steps will then be taken to provide useful feedback and support wherever possible.
