Prestigious NIHR Fellowship for Faculty of Health Sciences Researcher

Dr. Chloe Grimmett has been awarded a Fellowship by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

Physical inactivity costs the NHS in excess of £1bn a year, and studies suggest cancer survivors are less active than those without a history of the disease, making them an important population for targeted interventions to increase activity levels. Chloe’s research aims to develop a conceptual model and intervention to promote sustained, long-term physical activity after cancer.

Chloe said of the award:

I am thrilled to receive this NIHR fellowship award. I have seen through my previous research the numerous positive effects of physical activity on the physical and mental health of patients following cancer treatment. However, we know very little about how best to support people to continue to take part in regular physical activity for the longer term. My fellowship aims to develop an intervention to support sustained behaviour change that can be integrated into health care and community services.

Professor Mandy Fader, Dean of Health Sciences, said of the award:

This is a brilliant achievement by Chloe, who has won a major award from the National Institute of Health Research. This research will develop a model and intervention to help with long-term physical activity after cancer. This research will add to the growing strength of cancer research in the Faculty of Health Sciences and the wider University.
