This semester, the Careers Service ran its second Careers and Employability Festival from 20 October – 1 November.
Over a period of 14 days, the 2016 Festival brought together an autumn events programme including the Business Fair, IT Science & Technology Fair, and the Opportunities Fair.
The Festival was a huge success and attracted a whopping 3,910 students. A further 1,747 students took the opportunity to attend a number of career-focused events such as skills workshops, presentations and one-to-one opportunities led by Careers Practitioners.
Teach First, Nationwide, Babcock International, Civil Service, Ordnance Survey and a number of other employers came to speak with students across the Festival.
David Hoffman, an MSc Space Systems Engineering student said:
I thought it would be a great way to get informed about the opportunities available to me during, and after, my studies. I was pleased to see many of the companies I have a genuine interest in advertising their graduate positions.
I registered for several company presentations throughout the Festival and, I must say, presenters were very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of actionable advice. In my opinion, these Festival activities are very useful, especially for students in their final year, because they help you hit the ground running after graduation.
Feedback from employers was also positive. Staff from Ordnance Survey said:
We were very pleased with footfall of students. We were also impressed at how well marketed the event was, with many students who visited the stand mentioning that they had heard about the event from their lecturers/tutors.
