There are still tickets available for this evening’s lecture on the unfolding refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe.
The lecture starts at 17:45, in Building 54/4011.
European states have tried to find ways to cope with the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, either by agreeing on a number they will take on or by closing border and building fences, rather than supporting those whose rights are violated on a massive scale.
What are the responsibilities of European governments and societies in relation to the refugee crisis? What’s the best way to deal with the refugee/migrant crisis? What alternative solutions exist? These are some of the crucial questions that this public lecture will attempt to tackle.
The speakers
Professor David Owen (Department of Politics and International Relations) –What Makes a Refugee Crisis?
Dr Scott Soo (Department of Modern Languages) – Refugee Camps and their Legacy: France and the Spanish Civil War Exile.
Dr Hedvig Schmidt (Southampton Law School) – The Free Movement Rights for Migrants and Refugees under EU Law.
