The Student Forum – You Said, We Did

Four weeks ago the University held the first ever Student Forum. Since then, Nicky Passmore, Executive Director of Student Experience, has been working with University staff and Union Southampton to see how we can act upon the ideas put forward by your academic representatives.

Some of the great progress that has been made following the forum includes:

  • A new work-shadowing scheme will soon be trailed, where students will have the opportunity to work closely with staff. This has been created specifically for students who may not be able to take part in a placement.
  • An online diagnostic tool is being developed to help produce a personalised employability action plan for students.
  • The Faculty of Health Sciences have arranged for Rebecca Thomsen, Nursing Academic President, to join a placement practice working group, which will offer an insight into the industry for nursing students on placement.
  • The Faculty of Business, Law and Art are investigating the idea of a Cultural Café at Winchester School of Art to promote diversity and cultural exchange.
  • A number of placement videos, originally from the Business School, have now been shared to the wider University community.

You can view a full list of ideas and responses from the student forum here.

Your student voice is really important to the University – ideas or suggestions can’t always be acted upon, but will be wherever possible. If it isn’t possible, someone from the University will always try and explain why.

Students are welcome to share their feedback at the next Student Forum taking place in February 2017. An announcement will be made on SUSSED, so watch this space!
