A large contingent of academics from the University feature in the latest list of researchers with the world’s most highly cited papers.
The list of Highly Cited Researchers, published by Clarivate Analytics (formerly the Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters), features the world’s leading researchers in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, including the following Southampton academics:
- Professor Graham Burdge – Human Nutrition and Nutritional Biochemistry
- Professor Philip Calder – Nutritional Immunology
- Professor Cyrus Cooper – Musculoskeletal Science/Lifecourse Epidemiology (further details of the metrics which led to Professor Cooper’s work qualifying for the list can be found here).
- Professor Mark Hanson – Cardiovascular Science
- Professor Alan Jackson – Human Nutrition
- Professor Karen Lillycrop – Epigenetics/Biological Sciences
- Dr Emma Phillips – Cell Biology/Biochemistry
More than 3,000 researchers were selected this year based on the number of highly cited papers they produced over an 11-year period from January 2004 to December 2014. The list is a citation analysis which identifies scientists – as determined by their fellow researchers – whose research has had significant global impact within their respective fields of study.
The methodology that determines the who’s who of researchers draws on data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts from Clarivate Analytics. The data forms a key component of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, one of the longest established annual surveys of top universities globally.
