10-Year Plan Open Space

The Vice-Chancellor announced during his Campus Tour that the 10-Year Plan Open Space would be available in the Hartley Library.

Staff reading about the 10-Year Plan in the Open Space, Hartley Library, 4th floor, room 4061.

Situated on the 4th floor of the Library in room 4061, the Open Space is an area for all staff to visit and learn how the University’s ‘Simply better’ strategy is being implemented. The room can be booked using the online booking system, and the key is held at the Hartley Library reception. When visiting, please ask for the 10-Year Plan Open Space key and return it after your visit. Why not hold your team meeting there one week?

The University has chosen 12 ‘levers’ that span two of our core principles, Quality and Sustainability. Each ‘lever’ represents an achievable change that will have a significant impact on achieving our objectives.

Selection of the 10-Year Plan ‘levers’ was evidence based, drawing upon data from a number of external sources such as the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and league tables, as well as internal sources such as the staff survey.

The University wants to ensure that all staff have access to this data, helping you to understand the development of the 12 ‘levers’, as well as the challenges and opportunities we face in moving them.

These levers are displayed on the main wall of the Open Space along with some of the background data. There are 4 different touch-screen displays, with presentations covering an introduction to the 10-Year Plan, explanatory videos by William Powrie, (Executive Lead for the 10-Year Plan and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering), information about what some areas of the University are already doing and a presentation on the governance of the project itself.

Please take some time to visit the room and work your way anti-clockwise around the displays. If the computer screens are asleep – just give them a tap!

The Open Space accommodates 12 seated and is a great place for teams to meet and discuss the plan. Colleagues are invited to come up with creative solutions to some of the challenges faced by the University – how can you take ownership for driving parts of the plan in your area?

Feel free to help yourself to refreshments, and please leave your feedback in the visitors’ book.
