Gower development: arrangements for the Christmas period and notice of works starting in the New Year

The University’s contractor for the Gower development has now closed the site for the Christmas period, returning on Thursday 5 January 2017.

Salisbury Road will remain single carriageway throughout the Christmas period, with traffic light management in place. In the absence of site staff, campus users are reminded to take caution when crossing this road close to the development site.

During the Christmas closure period the site will remain unmanned. In the event of a site-related emergency, the contractor’s emergency contact number is 02380 736800. Any non-urgent queries should be directed to [email protected] as usual, and we will respond as soon as possible in the New Year.

Advance notice of works commencing January 2017

Returning after the University’s Christmas closure, staff and students will start to notice changes being made in the development area.

The package of enabling works currently being carried out by PTC Contractors is due for completion by the end of January 2017. To ensure a smooth transition into the next phase of development, the University has instructed its main build contractor – BAM Construction – to undertake pre-construction activities during January 2017.

The University is working with BAM to agree the details of these works, and further information will be issued in the New Year. The following is an overview of the key activities:

  • During January, the Upper Nuffield East Car Park (adjacent to Building 67, Nightingale) will be closed to allow the contractor to set up their site offices, welfare and delivery area. In preparation for this closure, the extended section of Broadlands Car Park is now open and available for use.
  • In January and February works will continue along Salisbury Road and activity will continue within the hoarded site.

Further details of the above will be available in the New Year, please revisit this page or look out for updates on SUSSED.

If you would like more information about the works being undertaken, please email us at [email protected].
