Free legal advice clinics in February: supporting access to justice

Launched in 2009 by the Law School, in conjunction with a specialist barrister at 12 College Place Chambers, the Housing Law Clinic offers pro bono (free) advice to University of Southampton students. It has gone from strength to strength, advising students on a range of housing related matters.

Law student clinic volunteers with Professor Brenda Hannigan, Head of the University’s Law School.

Employment Law and Family Law clinics have since followed suit, the latter in conjunction with Irwin Mitchell Solicitors. The clinics can advise students across a spectrum of complex matters, and in doing so support access to justice at a time when legal aid is in short supply.

It is a crucial time for housing issues, as students are choosing accommodation for the following academic year, signing contracts and so on; and family and employment issues arise throughout the year.

The next Family Law Clinic will be on Thursday 9 February, and the Housing and Employment Law Clinic on Thursday 23 February.

If you could benefit from pro bono advice in any of these three areas, please email: [email protected], or [email protected], or [email protected].
