University Pro-Chancellor Jon Sopel will be visiting the University on Monday 6 March to deliver his lecture, entitled: ‘The truth, the post truth and nothing but no truth, so help me God’, as part of the 2017 Distinguished Lectures programme.*
In this lecture Jon Sopel, the BBC’s North America Editor, will look at the challenges facing the conventional, fact based, impartial, traditional media.
Please note, tickets for the live event have now sold out. Due to this talk’s immense popularity, it will be live streamed on the day in Room 1027, Building 67 (Nightingale), Highfield Campus. To book tickets for the live stream, please follow the links below.

Hillary Clinton was at the centre of a paedophile ring, the Pope backed Trump, the Feds were investigating Clinton for conspiracy to murder…
These were just some of the totally fictitious stories that gained traction during the 2016 US election. A mixture of appalling mendacity, Macedonians who wanted to make money, Russian agents who wanted to make mischief, and soulless computer algorithms on social media all combined. But how much of a role did they play in propelling a disillusioned and angry American public to vote for Donald Trump?
Trump also won the popular vote. Or he would have done, if it hadn’t been for 5 million illegal immigrants voting for Hillary Clinton. Or is that a fiction, too?
The lecture will take place on Monday 6 March from 18:00 – 19:00.
We anticipate this lecture will be extremely popular and will most likely sell-out. This being said, if you book a ticket and can no longer attend, please email [email protected] to confirm your cancellation, and your ticket will then be offered to one of the many individuals on the waiting list.
