Member of the Web & Data Innovation & Development Team recreates Newport in Minecraft

Christopher Gutteridge has recreated the entirety of Newport, Isle of Wight (all 16sq kilometres) in the popular game Minecraft.

Chris will be opening a ‘colouring book’ version of the space up to other Minecrafters this half term, giving them the chance to make the virtual town more or less accurate, more historical, more futuristic, and everything in between.

The maps will be downloadable for use with PC, OSX or Linux versions of Minecraft, but will not be compatible for Playstation, Xbox or tablet versions.

On Saturday 25 February from 13:00 – 16:00 in the Seminar Room, Quay Arts, Newport, Isle of Wight, there will be a drop-in afternoon session where you can meet Chris and other enthusiasts, and share the adaptations you’ve made. For those unable to attend in person, there will also be the chance to submit screenshots of your Newport creations.
