Understand international drinking cultures at Lifelong Learning’s event

We are what we drink. What does tea tell us about the Chinese, or Burgundy about the French?

What does drinking means to the people who consume or, equally tellingly, those who choose not to? What are the rituals and stories circulating around drinking? What do they tell us about consumption?

Come along to Lifelong Learning’s event at Avenue Campus on Saturday 11 March and learn all the answers to these questions and more.

From Ireland to Hong Kong, Mexico to Germany, drinking plays a key role in a wide range of religious, familial, social, even political functions. This event will give you first hand insights into two very different examples of drinking culture. It will include expert talks from University of Southampton academics and Zhejiang University, an introduction to the world of wine tasting by a renowned expert on Burgundy wines, and a tea ceremony, sponsored by the Confucius Institute and performed by specialists from the China National Tea Museum.

Ticket price:
Staff : £40.00
Students : £20:00
The entry price will include refreshments, buffet lunch and a wine tasting session.
