The Department of Music is excited to host one of the UK’s most original musicians, the award-winning jazz saxophonist, MC, broadcaster and producer Soweto Kinch, for a public panel discussion led by third-year Music students on Thursday 2 March in Room 1077, Building 6 (Nuffield Theatre), Highfield Campus.

Kinch is visiting the department as the guest of the undergraduate Jazz History module to talk to students about his own journey as a jazz and spoken-word artist and his thoughts about perspectives for jazz today – in the UK and worldwide. The session will be moderated by Dr Tom Irvine, who convenes the module, together with University jazz tutor Dan Mar-Molinero.
Kinch’s visit to Southampton will continue on Friday 3 March at 20:00 with a concert featuring work from his new album Nonagram at Turner Sims. For more information on the concert, including how to book your ticket, please click here.
Since his first album was released in 2003, Kinch has amassed an unprecedented array of accolades including two MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards, two Urban Music Awards, BBC Rising Star Award, BBC Best Jazz Instrumentalist and BBC Best Jazz Band.
