This year, Southampton is joining in the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration theme by ‘Being Bold’ and inviting everyone to West Quay and fringe events in town on Saturday March 11 to promote and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, both locally and worldwide.
Organised by Hampshire Constabulary in collaboration with community groups, partnerships, universities, local authorities and charities, events and activities will run on stalls throughout the day at West Quay.
There will also be performances on stage by Nuffield Theatre, fashion showcases from students at Winchester School of Art, and live music from The Lounge Kittens.
A Women in Science discussion panel will take place at The Art House, as well as several guest talks ranging from the founder of Strength With In Me charity, Dr Diahanne Rhiney, talking about empowering young women in tackling the fallout of domestic abuse, and a talk by Vic Dale entitled Women’s Struggle in Pakistan.
In the evening there will also be a small music festival hosted at The Art House where several local, female-led bands will be performing from 20:00 into the night.
So please, join us for a day of celebrating women – in all their bold achievements, be that in art, business, science or the social sphere.
