Are you passionate about fashion and sustainability? Come along to the second Fashion and Sustainability Forum on Wednesday 15 March from 10:00 – 19:00 at Westside Lecture Theatre, Winchester School of Art.
Open to all staff and students, tickets for this event are free. As the event runs throughout the day, attendees are welcome to drop in to see a particular speaker, or stay for the entire day. Availability of seating may be limited at some of the talks, so booking is recommended through Eventbrite.
The issue of sustainability is not a new one. Beginning with the consumer boom in the 19th century when shopping became a leisure activity, moving away from ‘need’ to ‘desire’, to the current day where we are constantly bombarded by images, adverts and celebrities that tell us our lives will be improved by more consumption, more belongings. With fast fashion and disposable ‘designed for the dump’ clothing and other goods, how do we address this phenomenon?
As sustainability becomes more prevalent in modern society, there is a need for creative solutions. Join in and lead debates on these important and complex issues.
Speakers include:
- Orsola De Castro – founder of Fashion Revolution and Esthetica at London Fashion Week. Orsola is currently working on collaborations with retailers and projects with CSM and Hong Kong Design Institute.
- Caryn Franklin MBE – co-editor of i–D magazine, television presenter, fashion thinker and innovator.
- Mo Tomaney – a textile designer specialising in transparency and responsibility in the supply chain, and she is a member of the Global Advisory Committee of Fashion Revolution.
- Deborah Campbell – founder of Deborah Campbell Atelier, a contemporary ethical women’s wear label.
There will also be an opportunity to network over lunch and after-forum drinks.
The Interim Exhibition will be on at the same time as the forum, showcasing MA students’ work in progress, and including many pieces from Re:Design, a non-waste, sustainable project led by Winchester School of Art’s Reem Alasadi.
