The Confucius Institute at Southampton: Past, Present and Future

Since the Confucius Institute (CI) first opened on Highfield Campus in October 2011, it has become a channel offering local people the opportunity to study Chinese language and culture.

In 2017, the Confucius Institute moved to the Faculty of Humanities at Avenue Campus. The CI’s upcoming event, entitled: ‘the Confucius Institute at Southampton, Past, Present and Future’ taking place on Friday 10 March will offer students, staff and the wider Southampton community an opportunity to learn more about the CI.

Running from 16:00 – 18:00 in Garden Court, Building 40, Highfield Campus, the event will feature performances aimed to dazzle the audience with unique cross-cultural activities, including:

  • Tea Ceremony: A special Tea Ceremony by Tea Masters from the National Tea Museum in Hangzhou, China, who performed at the G20 in Hangzhou in 2016. Further information about the Tea masters can be found in the Profile of the Tea Master.
  • Music performance: The romance of Chinese music meeting Western music. Chinese Music performed by Southampton Art Group and Western Music performed by Music students from the University of Southampton.
  • Chinese Kung Fu: Performed by Shao Lin, the famous Kung Fu group in Southampton.

Everyone is welcome and attendance is free.
