On Monday 6 March Jon Sopel, the University’s Pro-Chancellor and BBC North America Editor, delivered his Distinguished Lecture entitled: The truth, the post truth, and nothing but no truth, so help me God.
During the lecture, Jon offered a fascinating insight into his role as a journalist covering the recent US Presidential election. Among other things, Jon discussed how the prevalence of ‘fake news’ in the run up to the election, combined with President Trump’s stance towards traditionally trusted media institutions (such as the BBC) once in office, could potentially affect the future creation and consumption of ‘news’ in both America and the wider world.
