Enactus Southampton books return to world cup

Update 30/06/17

Enactus Southampton were given the opportunity to represent the UK as Enactus National Champions in April. Subsequently, as part of a mandatory post-competition audit, the Enactus Southampton team identified a significant issue with evidence related to one of the projects they presented at the UK National competition and immediately alerted Enactus UK.

After further review and consultation by Enactus UK, the second place team at UK Nationals – Enactus King’s College London – was promoted and will now represent the country at the Enactus World Cup in September. Read the press statement by Enactus UK for more information.

Enactus Southampton will make a welcome return to the Enactus World Cup in London this September after winning the 2017 UK national final at ExCeL London.

The student enterprise society came through three rounds of presentations to take the national title for the first time since 2015 when the team went on to become the UK’s first winners of the Enactus World Cup in South Africa. This year’s presenting team is led by University of Southampton students Jake Davies, Stephanie Kirk, Amy Chandler, Marcus Earee, Megan Evans, Josh Long and Alexandre Beardshall.

Enactus Southampton presented two projects this year – Sole Support, a shoe enterprise based in Siaya County Kenya which employs local entrepreneurs to make and sell affordable close-toe shoes to prevent infection from the jigger parasite; and JuaMaji, a solar distillation solution providing clean water to communities in Kenya and Malawi. Both projects have been highly successful in bringing social and economic benefits to rural communities.

Amy Chandler, incoming President of Enactus UK, said:

It feels amazing to win the Enactus UK National finals, we’re just proud to have the opportunity to present at this year’s finals and will be even more proud to represent the UK and the University of Southampton at the World Cup in London in September.
