Tackling an ageing problem before birth

Research happening here at the University is looking at how supplements taken during pregnancy can reduce the risk of fatal bone fractures in later life.

Led by the team at Southampton’s Medical Research Council (MRC) Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit (LEU), the MAVIDOS trial was designed to discover whether osteoporosis that so debilitates the population in later life could be tackled in infancy, through vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy.
