Participants required for study exploring effects of ultrasound on humans

The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) is looking for people aged 18-35 with normal hearing to take part in a study exploring the effects of ultrasound on humans.

The experiment will consist of four sessions, each lasting around 40 minutes. Participants will be paid £20 upon successfully completing all four sessions.

Over the last decade, there has been a significant increase in public exposure to ultrasound in places such as shopping centres, stadiums and schools. Some members of the public have complained of symptoms such as tinnitus, headache, loss of concentration and annoyance when exposed to these sounds. ISVR’s experiment aims to test for these effects under carefully controlled laboratory conditions.

In this experiment, which will take place at ISVR Research (Building 13, Highfield Campus), participants will be presented with ultrasound while performing a visual task or answering questions. Participants’ responses to ultrasound will be measured using two electrodes placed on their fingers.
