Improved National Student Survey response rates: a thank you from the Vice-Chancellor

The 2017 National Student Survey closed on 30 April and final response rates have now been received.

At an institutional level, response rates finished at 72% which is up seven percentage points compared to last year and compares well with the national average of 68%.

President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Christopher Snowden said:

Thanks to everyone for the help in improving our NSS response rates this year and for the fantastic start we had earlier in the survey. I appreciate the efforts students put in to completing the survey, and to colleagues who helped raise awareness during the open period. I look forward to reading all student comments and ensuring I factor them into the University’s planning process.

At Faculty level, the final response rates are as follows:

  • Business, Law and Art – 77%
  • Engineering and the Environment – 68%
  • Health Sciences – 80%
  • Humanities – 67%
  • Medicine – 72%
  • Natural and Environment and Sciences – 79%
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering – 65%
  • Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences – 68%

The NSS 2017 results will be published in August 2017. These will then feed into various league tables that will be published at the end of 2017 and in the first half of 2018.
