A reminder of support available to staff and students

The University provides a range of support for staff and students who need someone to talk to.

Here is a reminder of some of those services:

The Employee Assistance Programme

Health and Safety website

Visit the Health and Wellbeing tab on the Health and Safety website. This highlights a range of Wellbeing activities and signposts to local and online resources for mental and physical wellbeing.

Faith and Reflection Centre

The University’s Chaplains and Faith Advisors are there for staff and students whatever their beliefs, faith or none. They are available to those located on other campuses, and can be contacted via Tel: +44(0)23 8059 3511 and email: [email protected]

You can also stop by the Faith and Reflection Centre for a tea or coffee from Monday to Friday between 10:00 – 17:00 at House 41, University Road, Highfield campus.

Crisis Support

The First support team can arrange support for students who may be dealing with a crisis or facing difficulties in their life. They can be contacted Monday – Friday from 08:00 – 18:00 in term time via Tel: +44 (0)23 8059 7488 and email: [email protected]

In times of extreme crisis

Out of hours (18:00 – 08:00 weekdays and all weekends, Bank Holidays and University closure days) support in times of extreme crisis can be sought by calling Tel. +44 (0)23 8059 2811. This service is run by Student Services in conjunction with University Security.

Students’ Union

Union Southampton’s help and support page includes a drop down menu featuring a wide variety of issues students could potentially face. Simply click on the issue you’d like support with, and you’ll be provided with links to the relevant service.

Nightline

Run by student volunteers, Nightline is a confidential listening and information service available to students studying at the University. They’re open every night during term time from 20:00 – 08:00 and can be contacted via Tel. +44 (0)23 8059 5236 or free from halls on Ext. 25236.

Peer Support

Providing students with an informal opportunity to talk through any issues which may be concerning them, Peer Support (part of Union Southampton) offers a range of support options from remote calls (Skype) to face-to-face meetings. To contact a peer supporter, email: [email protected] (all emails will be treated as confidential). If you’d prefer to arrange an online call, you can email the address above and request a Peer Supporter to come online and chat via text, voice or video call on Skype. The Peer Support account is called: peersupport_1

Residences Support

For students staying in halls or private rented accommodation, the Residences Support team are available on a 24 hour basis every day of the year, including periods of closure.

From 08:00 – 18:00 you can call the Residences team by calling Tel. +44 (0)23 8059 5777 or by emailing: [email protected]

From 18:00 – 08:00 you can call the Residences Support Service by calling the number above, or by emailing: [email protected]

The Residences Support Service team are not trained to deal with health/emergency situations and will contact the appropriate services in these situations.
