Each July, a team of academics in Physics and Astronomy run the SETI Cipher Challenge, which sees school children aged 14 – 18 years old across the UK challenged to unscramble hidden messages via an online forum.
This year, the team is asking for your help to create new cipher ideas that will really challenge the students.

With plans to come up with three scientific messages of different levels for each of the four days of the challenge, undergraduate and postgraduate students, staff and members of the public are invited to take part in a HACK Day to share ideas and create amazing ciphers.
The event, taking place on Monday 5 June from 11:00 – 16:00 in Room 1039 (Seminar Room L), Building 58, Highfield Campus, will include free Domino’s pizza to fuel attendees’ creativity, as well as prizes for the teams who come up with the ideas most likely to feature in July’s challenge.
Attendees don’t need to stay for the whole day.
