Study reveals lasting effect of neglect

Researchers here at Southampton are helping to change the way that young people and children are supported after experiencing neglect at an early age.

The English and Romanian Adoptees (ERA) study has revealed that periods of institutional deprivation during childhood can have a lasting effect on development and mental health during adulthood. The study – a collaboration between the University of Southampton and King’s College London, is the first large-scale study of its kind.
