Our Open Days aim to give prospective students a glimpse of what their life at Southampton could be like. During their visit, we hope they will find a place which shares their passion for learning and discovery, where they can see themselves growing and developing their skills.
During each of the three weekends (July, September, October) the organising team will welcome around 12,000 prospective students and their families and friends onto our campuses.
Additional support is always needed with these key events and there are opportunities for both staff and students to get involved. A friendly disposition and a good customer service approach is important as most of the roles will involve talking to prospective students and their families and friends.
Staff volunteers
If you would like to experience another part of university life from your usual role, then consider volunteering for an Open Day. Training and refreshments are provided. Please check that your line manager is happy for you to help before putting your name forward.
Sarah Pook, Executive Director for Finance and Planning, volunteered last year. She commented:
I spent a busy morning on the reception desk at Open Day. There is a very good buzz to the event and it was an excellent opportunity to get involved and see how another part of the university works. I am volunteering again this year.
Student Ambassadors
The Open Day team are looking for enthusiastic and friendly students with good communication skills to be our Student Ambassadors. You will play an important part in presenting the University to potential students and their families, answering their questions and pointing them in the right direction.

The role of Student Ambassador is a paid opportunity. The rate of pay is £7.87 per hour (including holiday pay) for under 25 year olds, or £8.37 per hour (including holiday pay) for over 25 year olds.
