November 2018 will herald one hundred years since the end of World War One, otherwise known as the Great War. The ‘Great War: Unknown War’ programme has been organised by the University as a way of marking this significant centenary.
Great War: Unknown War Programme
This interdisciplinary programme draws on academic expertise from the University, especially from the Faculty of Humanities. For example, colleagues in History, have been researching the war from different angles: the role of the USA; war propaganda; the Russian revolution and the Middle East. In the Music Department, they have been looking at composers from the war and music tied to themes of war and peace. In Archaeology, academics have been looking at how the war affected the archaeology discipline.
