Using Lynda.com – a Graduate’s experience

Rabiya Nasir, who studied BSc Psychology at the University and now works as a Marketing and Engagement Ambassador within IT Training and Development, credits her use of Lynda.com as having played “a huge role” in helping her secure her graduate position.

Learn with Lynda is a continually growing online library which houses over 5,000 high quality tutorials on topics ranging from business to web programming. The tutorials are delivered by specialists and are very reliable. All staff and students at the University can access the website for free.

Rabiya explained:

I personally found Learn with Lynda incredibly useful because it helped me to consolidate my learning during my time at university. The tutorials are comprehensive and a majority of the courses have exercise files and quizzes to guide you through the course.

Employers look for a variety of soft and hard skills such as project management and analytical skills. Tutorials on these skills are available on Learn with Lynda and they helped me to enhance the quality of my CV. Moreover, upon completing a course, I was issued certificates that I was able to add to my LinkedIn profile. I strongly believe that it is a great way to provide evidence for your skills and to stand out from the crowd.

As well the skills mentioned above, Rabiya also spoke of tutorials which can help individuals boost their confidence when communicating, stating:

It is important to be a confident communicator as it enriches your social interaction. Also, coming across as confident during interviews impresses employers as it shows your faith in your abilities which in turn, allows employers to have a positive outlook on you.
