Arts Council England funding success for University’s arts venues

John Hansard Gallery, Nuffield Southampton Theatres and Turner Sims have had their funding for 2018-2022 renewed by the Arts Council England.

The heads of all three venues said they were delighted with the news.

Woodrow Kernohan, Director of John Hansard Gallery said:

“Once relocated to Studio 144, the city’s new arts venue, the Gallery will evolve into a public-facing and porous organisation with an integrated approach to programming. The multiple exhibition and event spaces – three dedicated galleries and four multipurpose spaces – will enable the Gallery to create layered and overlapping projects, highlighting our pioneering engagement projects within the exhibitions and events programme.”

Kevin Appleby, Director, Turner Sims commented:

“The funding will enable us to realise some exciting new partnerships and programmes as part of our concert series and bring some of the world’s finest musicians to Southampton to perform.”

Sam Hodges, Director, Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) added:

“It is a great endorsement for us as an organisation to receive this Arts Council England funding  – it acts as recognition of our hard work over the last few years but it also provides stability and motivation as we gear up to take over our new building NST City.”

John Hansard Gallery and NST will be part of Summer in the Square, a public programme of arts activity in Guildhall Square giving a glimpse of what’s to come when both venues open at Studio 144 in the Cultural Quarter later this year.
