Now that Graduation is drawing to a close, work on the site of the University’s new teaching and learning building on Salisbury Road will be accelerating over the summer.
Our contractors have informed us that they will be implementing changes to the road layout on Salisbury Road this week.
From tomorrow, Friday 28 July, they will be installing fencing to reduce Salisbury Road to one lane, together with a traffic management system including lights. This will entail the closure of the south lane of the road in preparation for installation of a new permanent hoarding line around the construction site on Saturday 29 July.
As soon as the lane closure on Salisbury Road is in place, lorries visiting the construction site will start using the “turnaround” area behind Buildings 58 and 54 and the Turner Sims. Preparation of this area is due for completion by Friday and includes installation of safety railings to separate pedestrians from the heavy vehicles that will be using the area. A traffic attendant will be in place during construction hours.
Planned activity next week, w/c Monday 31 July, is as follows:
- At 6am on Monday morning a large piling rig will be delivered to the South Gower construction site on Salisbury Road. The rig is scheduled to arrive early to avoid the rush hour traffic. As the size of the vehicle delivering it is classified as an abnormal load, please avoid Salisbury Road at this time.
- Other large items of equipment will also begin to arrive from Monday onwards.
- Piling work is scheduled to start on Monday/Tuesday, once the rig is on site. The noise generated by such machines is controlled to a permissible level. It is also monitored on site.
