John Hansard Gallery, with support from the University, will hold a programme of activity in Southampton’s Guildhall Square (at the heart of the Cultural Quarter) called ‘Summer in the Square’ from 4 August – 3 September 2017.
Featuring new artworks commissioned by John Hansard Gallery, Summer in the Square will create a public space to meet, experience and take part in great art, music, free gigs, performances and activities for all the family.
The event will launch on Friday 4 August from 18:00 – 21:00 in Guildhall Square, with live DJs, performances and a chance to experience the new John Hansard Gallery artist commissions.
For Summer in the Square, John Hansard Gallery presents:
- Huddlehood by Irish artist Rhona Byrne – a bright yellow soft space to inhabit, explore and wear artworks that physically join you to others around you.
- British artist and writer David Batchelor has created P-A-R-A-D-E for Southampton – a series of vibrant lamppost banners that run the length of Above Bar Street.
- Swedish artist-designer Markus Bergström has created Guildhall Pavilion – a social and open performance space with a stage for gigs, film, theatre and poetry.
