University research Roadshow returns to BBC Countryfile Live this week

Our ‘Bringing Research to Life’ Roadshow has been invited back to the second BBC Countryfile Live in the spectacular grounds of Oxfordshire’s historic Blenheim Palace from 3 – 6 August 2017.

More than 50 Southampton researchers, staff and students will be taking part over the four days. All Roadshow stands have a hands-on aspect to help communicate research to all ages, a format particularly suitable for the multi-generational audience this highly popular event attracts.

The team will be showcasing a range of research from several areas of the University. These include Sustainable Infrastructure Systems (SIS), who will be engaging people with their research related to Water and the Environment, reintroduction of the beaver in the UK, fish pass systems, fish migration and the effects of hydroelectric power on river ecosystems.

Alongside the SIS stand will be a range of interactive biodiversity activities, and the latest incarnation of the amazing Circular Bioeconomy exhibit from the Bioenergy and Organic Resources Research Group (BBORG). Also for 2017, the team will be joined by the Centre for Population Change with their migration research activities and a team from Archaeology will be taking the opportunity to develop their research with a fully-documented live log-boat build for the duration.

The Roadshow is a core programme of the Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu). PERu exists to inspire and support high-quality public engagement with research across all disciplines at the University.
