Southampton celebrates continued achievements of our Malaysia Campus graduates

Over 30 students, who spent the first two years of their studies at the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus (USMC), have graduated this summer. This included the first ever group of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) students and the second cohort of Mechanical Engineering students.

EEE graduates celebrated with their academics.

MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduate, Stephen Chai Ming Han, is returning to Malaysia to start a new job with Intel. Stephen said:

“I feel very honoured to be able to join this group in graduating. Being the first group of EEE graduates from the Malaysia Campus is very special.”

Among the EEE graduates were a group who benefited from prestigious Lloyd’s Register Foundation scholarships, awarded to top performing students from USMC.

The Malaysia Campus, which opened in 2012, offers a unique international engineering experience as students spend the first two years of their degree programme studying at USMC, followed by the final two years at the UK campus.

Professor Neil Stephen, Head of Academic Affairs at USMC, referenced his own educational experience when praising this year’s graduating class:

“Going to university is meant to be transformative. I myself was the first member of my family to ever go to university. I’ve made a success of that experience and it’s lovely to see these students doing the same thing with their careers.”

Professor John McBride, CEO of USMC, concluded:

“It is a fantastic milestone for our Malaysia Campus and a marvellous achievement for these graduates, most of whom will now be moving on to excellent jobs in their respective fields in the UK, Malaysia and further afield.”
