University responds to safety concerns by closing service road at peak times

A service road, which links Salisbury Road to the back of Physics (Building 46), is to be closed permanently to the public from 06.00 – 18:00 Mondays to Fridays, starting from 18 September 2017 because of safety concerns.

The road, sometimes known as ‘Physics Road’ is not a public road but it is part of the University estate.

The decision to close the road is because of significant concerns about safety and follows a comprehensive study of traffic movements and pedestrian activity.

For the convenience of local residents and visitors to campus arts venues, the road will still be open in the evenings and at weekends.

Staff who park behind Buildings 46 (Physics) and 44 (Shackleton) will still be able to access these car parks via Hawthorn and Chamberlain Roads.
