From 1 August 2017, Residences Support transitioned to Student Life (SL).
The vision of SL is to deliver the highest quality service in the sector by improving the student experience. The team will provide a dynamic halls-based support service available to students, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This new service is available for all students, whether living in Halls or private rented accommodation.
SL works closely with other support services to provide a cohesive approach to supporting students. It also works with faculties and other professional services to help with student referrals in order to:
- Help students settle into university life
- Support students’ wellbeing
- Work with individuals or groups in the event of an issue or crisis
- Signpost and refer students to services, both internal and external, when they need additional support
- Proactively promote a healthy, safe and enjoyable university experience
SL will be hosting a wide range of events throughout the year, which provide a perfect opportunity to meet new people. Examples of some of the events held include:
- Cultural Events – Lunar New Year, Christmas Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Pumpkin Carving
- Social Events – Quizzes, Inter-halls Competitions, Table Tennis Tournaments, Games Console Nights, Board Games Nights, BBQs
- National and International Campaigns – Earth Day, Mental Health Awareness
Additionally, SL obtain feedback from our students and the Halls Committees in order to develop the types of events students want to attend.
The team operates from across the Halls of Residences, and is contactable through a central telephone number (Tel: +44 (0)23 8059 8180) and email address ([email protected]). All students are also able to access support face-to-face by visiting their nearest Halls of Residence.
In order to promote and widen the understanding of its services among our staff and students, the SL team will be holding ‘An introduction to Student Life’ sessions, which will provide an opportunity for questions and answers, as well as discussing the ways in which we can work together as a community to deliver support and events.
Introductory sessions on the new SL service will take place in Room 1025, Building 34 on:
- Wednesday 11 October at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00
- Wednesday 18 October at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00
Registration isn’t required, so feel free to drop by during any of the hourly sessions listed above.
