The University wishes to show support to Mexico in light of the recent earthquakes

An earthquake hit the centre of Mexico on Tuesday 19 September. This is the second to hit Mexico within a month.

The severe tremor has caused serious damage to Mexico City, Puebla, Morelos and Mexico State, with more than 400 buildings collapsed, thousands more damaged and hundreds of deaths reported so far. The University of Southampton’s office in Mexico City is currently closed due to damage but hopes to re-open soon.

Volunteers and the local government are searching for people trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings but there is still plenty more that can be done.

If you are a current student or member of staff who has been affected by this and would like support, please contact your Student Support Office within your faculty.
