Professor Claire Wakefield, from the University of New South Wales in Australia, is visiting the University as a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow. Professor Wakefield is an expert on improving outcomes for patients with cancer and their families, focusing specifically on the impact of hereditary cancer on families including developing decision aids to improve patient outcomes, as well as research on the impact of paediatric cancer on the family.
This exciting international collaboration, hosted by Associate Professor Anne-Sophie Darlington and Professor Claire Foster, has two main aims. Firstly, to develop a shared programme of work focusing on development and testing of interventions for families with a child or parent with cancer and, secondly, to share and develop interventions to support treatment related decision-making, related to genetic testing, in young women with breast cancer.
In addition, she is an advocate for Early Career Researchers, and she is the founding Chair of the Early Career Professionals Committee of the International Psycho-Oncology Society. We are delighted that Professor Wakefield will be sharing her expertise on building a successful research team.
