All staff and students are invited to attend the 29th Wellington Lecture, which this year will be given by Professor Jane Ridley, Professor of Modern History at the University of Buckingham.
Established in 1989 with an endowment from the Spanish Ambassador, the annual Wellington Lecture explores aspects of the life and times of the 1st Duke of Wellington, one of the leading military and political figures of the 19th century.
When the Duke of Wellington died, Queen Victoria wrote:
‘He was the GREATEST man this country ever produced, and the most devoted and loyal subject, and the staunchest supporter the Crown ever had.’
This lecture explores the connections and the relationship between the Iron Duke and the Queen, who herself possessed a will of iron.
The lecture will be held in the Turners Sims Building, on Wednesday 18 October, running from 18:00 until 19:00. Teas and coffees will also be served from 17:30 at the venue.
Please book your space on Eventbrite.
The speaker this year, Professor Jane Ridley is Professor of Modern History at the University of Buckingham, where she teaches an MA in Biography.
