Alexander Polli was killed shortly after completing the movie, delaying the release of the film until now.
Experience this unique globetrotting tale on the big screen as three lives collide on the edge. This breath-taking film will have you on the edge of your seat perched 3,000 feet in the air.
Wingsuit BASE is one of the most deadly extreme sports, whereby athletes use low aspect ratio ram air pressurised aeroelastic garments to free fall with 3:1 with glide ratios. Typically leaping from 1,000m cliffs, wingsuiters transition to horizontal flight with forwards speeds of approximately 120-200mph. Within the last two years, many of the world’s leading pilots have tragically died. This trend is accelerating with 31 deaths in 2016 by the end of August; the deadliest year on record.
Over the last two years, led by Dr. Angelo Grubisic from Engineering and the Environment, our engineering students have helped to put scientific understanding in to wingsuit design. The Icarus Project aims to make the sport safer and save lives by expanding pilot knowledge and developing innovations to give greater margin. Their designs have inspired the development of the Icarus-Race wingsuit developed by Squirrel LLC, the highest performance wingsuit to date.
Tickets are available from Union Films for £3.00.
