All staff and students are reminded that they have until Tuesday, 31 October 2017 to complete the online training module Safe and Supported which is aimed at safeguarding our University community.
Staff and students were sent the training link earlier this month and technical issues which arose when completing the module have now been corrected.
Staff who do not have access to Blackboard will be offered a training presentation and staff without online access are not expected to complete the training by 31 October.
If you have had problems accessing the training, you may need to install Google Chrome from the Additional Software list located on the desktop of your machine.
The Care Quality Commission defines ‘safeguarding’ as “protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights, enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.”
As members of the University community, we all have a duty of care towards each other. We understand that some members of our community may, at times, become vulnerable and deserve a dignified and prompt referral to support that is appropriate for them. This training will help staff recognise when someone may be vulnerable, and signposts how to escalate concerns.
All universities are required by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to ensure that all staff have received safeguarding training, so that any concerns are recognised and escalated appropriately.
The training forms part of the Equality and Diversity induction package that all new staff undertake on arrival at the University. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
There is also a new Safeguarding Policy which can be found on the University Calendar.
