October Student Forum – you fast-tracked your feedback!

The first Student Forum of the 2017-18 academic year was held on Tuesday 24 October, and our students were out in droves to give us their feedback and ideas.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to network with representatives from the University and the Students’ Union.

Sir Christopher Snowden, President and Vice-Chancellor said:

“I am grateful to the students who came to the Forum and for sharing their comments and views. We will be acting on these comments and I have already set in place a number of actions. I look forward to meeting students and representatives at future meetings and continuing to hear views from all our campuses which we can quickly address.”

Sir Christopher was even available for a selfie or two!

Jane Savidge, Executive Director of Student Experience commented:

“Thank you to all who shared their experiences and provided feedback at the Student Forum this week. The wide ranging questions and the lively exchanges show how much we gain by working together with our students. Questions raised highlight the importance of good communication and information flow about new developments and about the routes available to feedback or raise issues.

“The involvement of so many academic representatives will be a great basis for joint work this year to improve the experience of our students. We will be following up and updating on action taken in response to questions and comments in the next four weeks.”

After the forum, students were invited on a tour of the recent library redevelopments which were informed by student feedback.

Samuel Dedman, VP Education for the University of Southampton Students’ Union said:

“It was brilliant to see so many students at the first Student Forum of the year – including a large number of the Union’s newly-elected Academic Reps! It just goes to show that student feedback really can make a difference, and I’m pleased to see that the University remains committed to putting on events intended to take on, and directly respond to, student feedback.

I look forward to the next Student Forum in the not-too-distant future and, in the meantime, I’d encourage students to continue to give feedback either through the Union’s You Make Change system or the University’s Student Voice website.”
