We’re looking forward to seeing you today (Tuesday 21 November) at the Christmas Lights Switch On event!
Below you’ll find all the information you need ahead of the event.
Schedule:
From 16:00 – visit the Christmas market to stock up on your Christmas presents and soak up the atmosphere with music from the University of Southampton Brass Band and SURGE Radio.
At 18:00 the lights will be switched on by President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Christopher Snowden and Flora Noble, Students’ Union President
The market will remain open until 19:00, following this The Bridge and The Stag’s will have a selection of live music to keep you entertained until late.
What refreshments will be on offer?
If you pre-registered for a complimentary drink you will be able to exchange your Eventbrite ticket for a glass of mulled wine or mulled cider from 16:00 in either The Bridge, The Stag’s or either of the two Outside Bars – one in the Redbrick Square and one on the crescent outside of the staff club (Building 38). Please note you will be asked to provide a University ID card.
Once your ticket has been successfully scanned you will be given a token in exchange for your drink.
The Bridge and The Stag’s’will also be operating as cash-bars until late.
The Piazza and the Arlott Bar will be open until 18:00 and there will be a selection of festive food stalls within the Christmas Market.
Dress code:
The lights will be switched-on from the balcony of Building 40 so we recommend you wear appropriate footwear due to poor conditions, particularly on the grass.
Children:
This event is for the staff and students of the University of Southampton. Due to the high number of expected guests, children are not permitted to attend this event.
So that everyone has a chance to enjoy the festive decorations, there will be a separate families day celebration held on Monday 11 December. Click here for further details and to register for the Family Christmas event.

Please note that the University photographer and video producer will be capturing this event for use by the University in print and web publications.

Your ticket! You won’t be able to claim your free drink without it. Either print a copy or have the QR code available on your smart phone for scanning. You will also need your University staff/student ID.
Remember to bring some spending money for the market, or for further drinks.
