As part of the Reward Project, three existing probation policies have been consolidated into a single document, supported by a detailed guidance document. The new policy comes into effect from today, 1 December 2017.
Although there are no significant changes, the new probationary policy and guidance is intended to clarify the below in a single document:
- support for new members of staff while they are settling into the University;
- processes for assessing the suitability of new members of staff for continued employment;
- the framework within which areas of concern can be identified, addressed and resolved.
The contents of the new policy apply to all permanent and fixed-term/temporary employees with a contract of employment with the University, irrespective of Career Pathway or pay level, including apprentices.
Additionally, a number of HR processes were reviewed to help promote and support line managers in the implementation of supportive and robust probation period arrangements.
The new policy, guidance and appraisal booklets can be accessed from the University’s HR pages here.
